At ArtWorks, we’re sewing costumes, getting out the ladders and flipping switches for BLINK®, illuminated by ArtsWave, coming to downtown Cincinnati and Covington next week! The art, light and culture event is transforming our region Thursday, Oct. 10 – Sunday, Oct. 13. Read on to get ready for your FUTURE CITY!
Don’t BLINK and Drive
BLINK® attendees are encouraged to park on the outskirts of the festival zones and walk, bus, rideshare, or take the Cincinnati Bell Connector, which will be providing free rides all weekend!
Road closures will take place in all zone from 7pm -11pm each night and a few roads will be closed the entirety of the festival weekend.
Also, check out the BLINK Cincinnati App in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store! The App features an interactive map, with directions and parking information. Paper maps are available at the merchandise tent in each hospitality zone.
Thursday Sparks the BLINK® Future City Spectacular Parade Presented by Skyline Chili!
Get ready to start your BLINK Weekend on Thursday, Oct. 10!
It all kicks off with the Future City Spectacular Parade presented by Skyline Chili, curated by ArtWorks, just after sundown. Featuring more than 3,000 participants and groups from across the city and beyond, the parade will step from the corner of 8th and Vine streets in downtown Cincinnati. The stunning and lighted floats, puppets, musicians, and performers will make their way down Vine Street, ending at West Freedom Way at the Banks.

When the sun sets, our Youth Apprentices shine.
At the Future City Spectacular Parade, be on the lookout for TWO ArtWorks Youth Apprentice projects: GlowBots and Galactic Light Beasts.
GlowBots, with 10 Youth Apprentices led by local artist Kenton Brett, are robot costumes with light-based technology. See their magnificent creations Thursday, Oct. 10 at the BLINK® Future City Spectacular Parade presented by Skyline Chili, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Galactic Light Beasts, with 6 Youth Apprentices led by Jesse Mooney-Bullock, are wearable Beasts affixed to backpacks that tell a story through projection and movement for the parade on Thursday. The team will be also be featured in the Jackson Street Midway on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6 – 9 p.m.
Jessy Mooney-Bullock collaborated with Lizzy DuQuette to lead another team to create illuminated puppets animated by apprentices to dance along the parade route on Thursday.
The ArtWorks Youth Apprentice project, Other Worldly Costumes, is out of this world! Performances will be led by local artists Lindsay Whittle and Grace Duvall, activated in collaboration with 9 Youth Apprentices. This unique costume design and performance project will take place at the Banks under the Roebling Bridge Friday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 12 at 9:30 p.m.
Earth Citizens Courage Assembly is an ArtWorks Youth Apprentice project led by local artist Lizzy DuQuette. Apprentices worked with Duquette this summer to create 3D puppets and master light-based puppetry techniques including shadow puppetry. Enjoy their hard work in the Jackson Street Midway at the Art Academy’s Brave New Window Friday, Oct. 11 at 9 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Meet the Artist of ArtWorks’ Latest Mural on Saturday, Oct. 12
Meet the internationally renowned artist Saya Woolfalk at the ArtWorks dedication of her latest mural, Visionary Reality Threshold, Saturday, Oct. 12 at 4:30 p.m. This mural, next to the new Kroger On the Rhine at Central Parkway and Walnut Street, features a series of mandala-like portals inviting the viewer to explore the intricacies of the pattern-work as they turn to deep contemplation and personal reflection. Three professional artists and 14 Youth Apprentices created this stunning mural over 8 weeks this past summer.

ArtsWave is Offering BLINK® Guided Tours
Discover the stories behind the art at BLINK (Oct 10-13) through six unique guided tours by ArtsWave. Tours leave every half hour. Tickets are $35 for Projection Mapping and Art Installation Tours and $30 for Mural Tours. Discounts for seniors and students available; 12 and under are free and do NOT need tickets.
