Shepherd Fairey “Get Out the Vote” Mural Enlivens OTR

Renowned artist Shepard Fairey collaborated with local artists and apprentices to complete this mural as part of @artworkscincy’s nonpartisan ‘Get Out the Vote’ project during the week of from September 15–21, 2024, in an effort to inspire civic engagement.

This is Fairey’s first permanent mural in Ohio, and it emphasizes the importance of voting while empowering artists to engage in the democratic process. Fairey also devised Wheatpaste murals in the following locations:

  • Artist Alley, 1310 Pendleton Street, Pendleton
  • Wave Pool, Camp Washington
  • millergardette, 780 E McMillan, Walnut Hills
  • 1235 Main St, OTR
  • 210 Charles St, OTR
  • 1333 Walnut St, OTR

  • Clifton Cultural Arts Center, 3412 Clifton Ave, Clifton
  • PAR Projects, 1646 Hoffner Street, Northside

Fairey made waves in Cincinnati back in 2010 with his “Supply and Demand” exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Center, which included historic wheatpaste murals across Downtown and neighborhoods like Over-the-Rhine, Northside, and Oakley. You may be familiar with Fairey’s “Hope” poster featuring President Barack Obama.

On National Voter Registration Day (September 17), Fairey gave talks at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the Contemporary Arts Center, sharing his artistic journey and discussing public art can drive civic engagement.
