The Culture Club of Walnut Hills invites you to Glow Up with us for BLINK 2022! The Walnut Hills Arts and Cultural committee, Culture Club, will host pre- BLINK meetups—or Glow Ups— with free artmaking, free performances, and cocktails taking place from 4:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings of BLINK (October 13, 14 & 15th). Join us in community collaboration and activation at Five Points Alley in Walnut Hills. Take advantage of the fun and meet up with neighbors and friends before heading downtown on the free Metro service to BLINK. “Light- up Sculpture Headwear Workshop with Lindsey Whittle (Sparklezilla)”
Thursday, October 13th from 5-7:00 PM
Participants will design and sculpt their own headwear and/or headbands and add custom lights and decorations to wear during the Blink festival.
Lindsey Whittle, also known by her art name/identity Sparklezilla, is a multimedia performance and garment-based artist, textile print designer, art experience facilitator and educator who likes to take art experiences out of traditional art spaces and into everyday life. She uses colorful, transformable objects not only to form shapes, but as a starting point for collaboration. Whittle is a professor and educator that has developed custom garment and performance art programs for the Art Academy of Cincinnati since 2016. Whittle co-owns and co-instigates PIQUE, an experience gallery and Airbnb in Covington, KY, with her husband and fellow artist Clint Basinger. Basinger and Whittle, when working together operate under the art collective name “Spikow” which also includes their sound art band “Spikow for Now”. PIQUE’s Airbnb has been featured in Architectural Digest and Whittle’s artworks have been featured by Hyperallergic.
The Culture Club is also hosting a request-for-proposals (RFP) from an artist or a team of artists for ‘Glow Ups” in Walnut Hills! The Culture Club Artist-in-Residence will have the opportunity to create an installation for a Metro Bus Stop in Walnut Hills October 12-17th, 2022
Eligibility: This RFP is open to all artists and artist teams over 18, who currently reside in the Greater Cincinnati/Tri-State region.
Application Deadline: Friday, October 7, 2022
Project Budget: $500.00, includes artist honorarium, supplies and installation.
Project Background:
To support BLINK in Cincinnati, Culture Club will host art making, performances and installations, creating a fun, welcoming experience for both BLINK guests and residents of the community. Bus Stop art installations will mark the free Metro stations and contribute to the overall aesthetic of “Glow Ups”.

Selection Criteria
Artists will be selected based on the following criteria:
• Originality, creativity, and uniqueness of proposal;
• Creative connection to the Walnut Hills community.
• Imagination, creativity, and uniqueness demonstrated in previous projects;
• Quality and craftsmanship exhibited by past work;
• Prior experience with public art;
• Appropriateness of art materials used and scale relative to the site;
• Maintainability, structural and surface soundness, durability, maintenance and upkeep
requirements
Selection Process
A Design Review Committee, consisting of Culture Club members and Cincinnati Metro staff, will
review qualifications and designs for the project and select one artist or artist team to implement
their design. Artists not selected will be notified in writing and/or email.
Terms
● Culture Club accepts no responsibility for the loss or damage of artist
submission materials.
● Culture Club accepts no responsibility for costs incurred by the artist in
responding to this Call to Artists.
● Artists and artist collaborations selected for this project will be required to meet contract
terms and budgets. No additional and/or contingency funds will be available.
● Each entrant must be over 18 years of age to be eligible.
● Entrants must certify that their Entry (as defined below) is wholly original and that they
are the sole and exclusive owner and right holder of the submitted Entry and that they
have the right to submit the Entry in the competition.
● Entries must not infringe on any 3rd party proprietary, intellectual property, personal
rights or other rights, including without limitation, copyright, trademark, patent, trade
secret or confidentiality obligation.
● Culture Club reserves the right to verify and confirm entrants’ ages and compliance
with other eligibility requirements.

All proposal materials must be in electronic format. You may submit the required material in the
following ways: email files directly to Cutureclub45206@gmail.com or send a link to a Google
Drive or Dropbox folder. Paper applications will not be accepted. Emailed submissions must
contain in the email subject line: <Artist Name> 2022 Culture Club Artist in Residency
Proposal Submission
All submissions must include the following digital files:
- Statement of Intent
-Artist’s statement and design sketch
-A clear description of ideas and inspiration for the installation
-Outline of experience working in public spaces
-Process and timeline for completion
