Overview

Teaching Artists (ages 22+) lead teams of Apprentices (ages 14-21) to create public art and community impact projects on a seasonal basis (Spring and Summer). This job is available to artists with advanced technical skills who are excited to share their craft with the next generation. Two Teaching Staff opportunities are available: Lead Teaching Artist and Teaching Artist. Each position has varying degrees of project management responsibilities, but both require a passion for inspiring young artists and executing large-scale public art projects.
Teaching Artists wages start at $24.37 an hour. Teaching Artists work between 30 and 35 hours per week for the duration of their seasonal employment.

Which Teaching Staff Position is Right for Me?

Lead Teaching Artist
  • You are at least 24 years old
  • You have advanced artistic skills and experience leading and executing large-scale projects, as evidenced by a strong visual portfolio
  • You may be an established artist, freelancer, or art teacher
  • You are able to wear multiple hats, be a problem-solver, and be a budget wizard
  • You like to energize, inspire, and shape youth’s knowledge, interests, and professional skills
Teaching Artist
  • You are at least 22 years old
  • You have advanced artistic skills, as evidenced by a strong visual portfolio
  • You may have worked with ArtWorks in the past as an Apprentice and want to take your leadership to the next level
  • You are interested in developing your leadership in a creative profession
  • You may be a recent graduate or transitioning to a creative career
  • You like to energize, inspire, and shape youth’s knowledge, interests, and professional skills

You are also required to upload a resume, cover letter, and three references, though the samples of your work will be the most important element of your application. If you have a website or social media dedicated to your artistic practice, please provide a link or URL when prompted.
