Wet Paint featuring Loren Long
July 11 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Wet Paint is ArtWorks’ event series that offers a look behind the scenes of our in-progress projects—an array of new art planned for our region—centering on the artists who make our city vibrant.
Attendees will hear from the Apprentices, Teaching Staff and Studio Artists behind our summer 2024 art projects, followed by a talk and Q+A with a featured professional artist.
Featured Artist: Loren Long, designer of ArtWorks’ in-progress “Yellow Bus” mural
Loren Long is the author and illustrator of the New York Times bestselling picture book “Otis” series. He is the #1 New York Times bestselling illustrator of President Barack Obama’s picture book Of Thee I Sing, Matt de la Pena’s Love, the re-illustrated edition of The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper, and Mr. Peabody’s Apples by Madonna. Loren’s new edition of Clement C. Moore’s The Night Before Christmas is a modern, more inclusive take on the classic. His most recent works are Someone Builds the Dream by Lisa Wheeler and the much anticipated picture book, Change Sings written by Inaugural Poet Amanda Gorman. The Otis series has been developed as an animated television series, Get Rolling With Otis, on Apple TV, which Loren Executive Produced. Loren will share his insights on the creation process (from idea to writing to art techniques and decisions along the way) of his new picture book, The Yellow Bus, the focal point of the Queen City Book Bank mural.
