Powered by the NEP and PIVOT initiative, Avondale residents asked the City of Cincinnati, the Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio and ArtWorks to create this mural in celebration of heroes in Avondale. Lead designer and former Avondale resident, James Pate, worked with ArtWorks to engage community members to shape the design of the mural, which spotlights the professions of everyday neighborhood heroes such as mothers, barbers, students, police officers, clergy members and more. The rich, vibrant color palette complements the mural’s intention to transform this corner into a hub for community collaboration and activation. The mural was painted by a team of six local Youth Apprentices, including Avondale residents, and two local Teaching Artists. Who are your local or everyday heroes?
This mural was destroyed in a fire in August of 2021.
