About SpringBoard:

In June of 2011, ArtWorks launched SpringBoard, its new business planning and development program for artists, artisans, and creative entrepreneurs targeting sustainability in small business. SpringBoard offers entrepreneurs a variety of resources to achieve their artistic and economic goals by creating a unique and collaborative learning environment. Through an 8 week course convening 3 hours each week, creatives build a comprehensive business plan and learn valuable marketing and financing management skills. Access to resources and an opportunity to develop relationships with other entrepreneurs and community partners will set these small businesses up for success. SpringBoard will initially focus its impact on commercial corridors in Over-the-Rhine and Downtown, connecting graduates with potential storefront spaces.

A small classroom size and ample time to engage with professionals such as attorneys, accountants, branding experts, and mentor businesses will give these entrepreneurs the tools they need to successfully launch and grow their businesses. The $250 course fee includes the tuition to the 8-week course, as well as personalized consulting sessions with the SpringBoard facilitator.

"SpringBoard is a natural extension of Artworks’ programming, with a view towards providing innovative opportunities for creative minds and adding vibrancy to the landscape” says Tamara Harkavy, ArtWorks' Director. “This program will spark more creative enterprise in Over-the-Rhine and beyond, ultimately creating economic development opportunities, adding to the renaissance of our city.”

From the start SpringBoard has had the generous support of the Carol Ann & Ralph V. Haile, Jr./U.S. Bank Foundation. In September of 2011, just three months after the program started, ArtWorks received funding from ArtPlace, a collaboration of top national foundations, the National Endowment for the Arts, and various federal agencies to accelerate creative placemaking across the U.S. Currently support from the Haile Foundation and PNC Bank will allow for classes, round tables, and ongoing mentorship that supports these entrepreneurs in their ventures.
