ArtWorks Projects
ArtWorks strives to provide projects in the visual, literary, and performing arts, with the highest concentration in the visual arts. Projects change each year. Applicants can rank their 1st , 2nd , and 3rd choice project during their interview.

All projects have a Project Manager who is a professional artist and/or art educator. There are support Teaching Artists that help manage each project. These artists work as a team to mentor the Apprentice Artists. The ratio of Professional Artists to Apprentices Artists is small, typically 1:4 for hands-on learning. As in traditional Apprenticeships, Professional Artists directly lead the project design and are greatly involved in the artistic outcome so that teens learn specific skills and techniques.

ArtWorks projects encourage collaboration and teamwork. Apprentices work closely with diverse peers in both small and large groups. On average Apprentice Artists come from over 60 schools, 70 neighborhoods, and 3 states. Through the group interaction, teens develop communication, idea exchange, creativity, and problem solving skills. Additionally, teens enhance professional presentation skills by working with clients and preparing a formal presentation of their final project idea.

Apprentices learn about careers in the arts such as graphic, interior and industrial design, fine arts, and many other fields. Teens who don't plan to pursue a career in the arts gain confidence and skills that can be used in future jobs.

At the end of the ArtWorks job program, Apprentices receive a job performance review that stays in their permanent ArtWorks file. Apprentices are encouraged to list ArtWorks as a reference on future job application or contact ArtWorks for school recommendations.
