This mural is an ode to the rich history and mythology that surrounds Mount Adams, the neighborhood that was formerly known as Mt. Ida. The mural uses a combination of colorful Rookwood tile and vibrant paint to honor the visionaries that founded, lived in and helped Mount Adams grow into the thriving neighborhood that it is today.
The figures featured in the mural are (from left to right): millionaire and innovative horticulturalist Nicholas Longworth; Rookwood Pottery founder and the first female international entrepreneur in the United States, Maria Longworth Storer; Cincinnati’s first Catholic Archbishop, John Baptist Purcell; Ormsby M. Mitchell, who built the nation’s first observatory; and pioneer woman Ida Martin, herself.
In partnership with Mt. Adams Civic Association. Special thanks to Towne Properties and Jim Steiner.
